I am in a well-manicured office park. The office buildings are low - two-stories at the most. It is dusk and the area is mostly deserted except for the occasional car in a parking lot or a person behind the glass of an lit office. They are most likely working late. I continue walking past this building and through that parking lot. I notice that my two cats, Sketch and Cleo, are following me. They catch up to me and I scratch Cleo affectionately behind the ears. They run on ahead but continue to keep me in sight. We pass a small pizza joint, one that clearly only serves the local businesses. It is closed but the owner is still there. I can see him through the front window. He is behind the counter cleaning something. I have the distinct feeling that I can fly but I don’t. Just beyond the pizza joint there is a break in the buildings and I see that the ocean is just behind the row of buildings I’ve just passed. My cats have never seen the ocean before. They walk fearlessly right up to the edge of the tide where the sand is damp. There they sit and look out over the water. I can clearly see that waves have crashed far further up the beach closer to where I am, almost right up to the edge of the back of the buildings. I fear that my cats are in danger of being swept out to sea by the next wave. I call to them urgently to come to me where it is safe. They ignore me. I am too afraid to go to them. The next big wave rolls in and I can clearly see it is going to wash over them. They are oblivious to it. I am frantic but still too afraid to attempt a rescue. The wave crashes over them, clearly startling them. They are pull into the ocean and tossed around in the water. I am horrified but unable to move. Then both simply walk out of the sea as if it was never of any concern to them. Both are unhappy about being wet but they are clearly unconcerned about the danger I was so certain they faced. I am ashamed of my fear. The dream ends. |
